The South Fraser Branch was officially formed in February 1963 as "Surrey District Branch", after having operated for 4 years as a division of the Vancouver Branch. There were 9 members on the first roster. In 1999, the name was changed to South Fraser Branch to reflect the areas where our teachers live and teach -- Surrey, North Delta, Langley, Fort Langley, White Rock, South Delta, New Westminster and Burnaby. Our membership now stands at approximately 120 and we also sponsor a small Student Auxiliary Association. Our largest branch project for over the past 40 years has been our annual Music Festival which has grown from one afternoon of piano solos to its current 1300 entries in piano, strings and flute. This festival, held in the last two weeks of February, is organized and run totally by our volunteer members as we host top adjudicators from both BC and Alberta.
Our branch meets five times a year in a local church with an average of 50 teachers attending. Most meetings include an informative workshop on topics of interest to our members. Other events include senior master classes, house concerts and a Canada Music Week benefit recital put on by our performing teachers to raise money for our Festival scholarship fund.
Teachers are listed alphabetically by the discipline in which they are registered with the BCRMTA. Most of the following teachers also teach theoretical subjects.
