TRAIL/CASTLEGAR BRANCH
The charter meeting of the Trail Branch of the BCRMTA was held in
September 1944, with Edith Anthony as president. Recently, the name
of the branch was changed to "Trail/Castlegar" to reflect more accurately
its geographical area. Currently there are nine teacher-associates
of the branch and four student teacher auxiliary members working from
their homes in the Trail/Warfield, Rossland, Fruitvale, Genelle and
Castlegar areas.
During the first term of each year the branch presents
a "Mini-Festival" with a visiting adjudicator, usually with a specific
theme. At the conclusion of this event, an honours concert is given,
with students as well as the adjudicator performing. Other regular
branch activities include an annual composition contest as well as several
recitals scheduled throughout the year, such as a Canada Music Week
recital, pre-exam recitals, and special events such as "Youngest Artist"
and "Funtastic" recitals. Awards for students who excel in both
theory and performance are presented annually at the Canada Music Week
recital.
